This hotel is way out of the city center, but its in a nice area that has nothing but apartments and some corporate buildings, so it is very quiet at night. (taking the 195 bus right from the airport is easy, just ask the bus driver to point out the stop.) getting to the city center wasn't that difficult. you had two public transit choices. there was a bus stop right behind the hotel, or you could walk 15 minutes to the tram line 2 stop, just ask the front desk where each is. (the green connexxion bus that stopped there and the gvb tram are owned by two separate companies so the chipkart only worked with whoever you bought it from while i was there.) it'd take 15-30 minutes to get to the center via tram.

Comentado por A de London em Ago 9, 2009
The room was very modern, decorated in muted shades of beige, black and grey. The well proportioned bathroom was exceptionally well equiped, including decent water pressure in the shower. In Amsterdam it is always a challenge to find a match between quality and price, even some of the 3/4 start hotels are shabby in appearance and very basic, fortunately the Artemis is not in this category, you get the quality you pay for. The only downside from my point of view is the paid parking - being so far outside the centre of Amsterdam I would have expected the parking to be free, it is about 25 EUR per day but if you are only staying on buisiness (i.e. the oligatory 8 hours sleep plus drink at the bar) then you can pay 11 EUR for 12 hours in the evening. It is possible to have your parking card paid at reception and added to your room bill which if you have to fill out regular expense forms makes life a little easier. Another plus point was the late check-in, having arrived after eleven in the evening I didn't need a discussion about calling ahead and what if no-one was here etc. - and joy of joy's I didn't get one - signed straight in, was given my room key with a smile and a swipe of my credit card - could not have been better in that respect.

Nothing to comment about the hotel cause everything just perfect!! However if you concern about the location, even though the hotel quite far from the city center, the bus service (no 145) just behind the hotel or you can walk around 10-15minutes to the nearest tram station to bring you directly to the central station (Line 2).

I was so pleased once I stepped into the hotel, pleased with it's design, aesthetic, pretty much everything visually appetizing about it; But then... I encountered rude reception person number 1, followed by days of different pretentious rude reception people, rude room service people, rude telephone people. I left a day early, I couldn't care about how great the hotel and room were...I felt so uncomfortable there...guess I just wasn't good enough clientele.

This hotel is no longer quite as hip as it used to be, but it's still very nice, with a pleasant and knowledgeable staff and an excellent restaurant. Rates are quite reasonable. Just know that you're about 20-30 minutes away from the main sights--but the tram ride into town takes you through some very nice neighborhoods.

This hotel was lovely but there were a few drawbacks. - hotel food was very expensive and there are no alternatives close by. - bed was quite soft and pillows were insufficient. - towels were very small not 4 star quality. however the room was beautiful very spacious and very clean in keeping with the design of the hotel. Staff were very helpful. This is a nice hotel if you dont mind the 20 tram ride or just want a luxury night in.

This hotel was absolutely perfect, especially for the art lover! The hotel is decorated with Holland essentials and the newest art from top Holland artists, which the staff informed me changes every 3 months. My room was absolutely beautiful, and the heated floor in the bathroom was a definite plus. This hotel is also located only minutes from both the Van Gogh museum and the Riksmuseum. But I must say that the most incredible aspect of the hotel was the staff. We had a ton of questions for them and the answered every one of them. They were extremely helpful and knowledgeable about their city. I will stay here for all future Amsterdam visits.

On arrival at the hotel the receptionists insisted that two rooms were unpaid for and insisted that the full room rate for five nights needed to be paid or no room! After providing them with proof of payment with a website receipt they offered no apology for their mistake. The day before our departure I prebooked a shuttle bus for the airport. As the hotels literature states a shuttle bus runs from the hotel every hour and two hours notice is all one needs to give so I thought a day was plenty. After checking out the next morning I reminded the same receptionist of our shuttle bus booking at 8am. It was ten minuted later she told us that the shuttle bus would not be collecting us and it 'was not her problem'. I felt annoyed that I had given a days notice for the booking and they had failed to either book the bus or notify us that our booking was not possible. Perhaps if we had been wearing suits and of an older generation she would have bothered to book it for us in the first place. This unhelpful approach and the fact that they tried to charge us twice for our booking resulted in stressful situations in what should have been a relaxing holiday. Despite these few members of staff the hotel itself was of excellent quality and situated in a pleasant area just outside the main center. The food at the hotel was also of top quality as`was the service of the friendly waiting staff.

We got to the hotel 2 hrs before checkin, and were refused early checkin. We ventured into the city to catch some sights for the afternoon. When we returned, the front desk service was exceptionally slow (even with 2 people behind the desk and only 2 people in line). When we finally got our room, we were quite surprised and alarmed to open the door and find a man passed out on the bed, tv on, and smoke pouring out the door. The room as obviously taken. Returning to the front desk, it took us another 35 minutes to get another room. I believe most of this time was because someone was cleaning our next room while we waited. The front desk did not offer much in the form of a formal apology or acceptable answers for the unusual circumstances. Once we got our room (again), we were quite pleased with the room itself. Very modern, clean, and a decent amount of space. The location was mediocre, about a 15 min walk to the tram, and then a 25 min ride in to the tourist sites. Parking was extra.

The hotel while new and modern is not geared for tourist and caters to business accounts. Flat screen television did not work internet access was troublesome and not free. Prices are very expensive and more so with the low dollar. Attitude is biggest complaint, we felt taken for granted and not made to feel welcomed. Be very careful with taxis, TCA & TCI are recommended by hotels and tourist bureau, others will not meter and flat charge which will be higher. Dissappointed in Amsterdam, not clean and most people encountred had an attitude.

The lobby is super cool - huge atrium really modern and clean and pretty. however the rooms were not the same. it did have a flat screen tv and the shower was excellent but it was NOT clean. there were hairs all over my bed and the floor left my feet dirty - didn't want to take off my shoes. the hotel is located in an office park so there is NOTHING around it if you do not have a car. very convenient to the highway however. Our taxi driver took us for a ride so be careful and make sure they know where it is. there is a little gym with treadmill, bike and crosstrainer for fitness minded folks.

It took 10 minute walks in the rain and 25 minutes on the tram to get to the town center. Also when we called from the airport for a way to get to the hotel we were told the ONLY way was the airport hotels shuttle which we paid 20 euros EACH; We found that a city bus#195 ran straight there from the airport. Hotel was in the middle of a business park with no other restaurants in the area, however other than the bad location it was a very nice hotel.

"Dutch Design" apparently means a room overfull with angular junk that doent do what it is support to do. Turning on the lights requires leaving your room key card in a slot near the door, a recipe for being locked out. Taxi hailing seems to be an issue. A price of ?18 was quoted at the front desk, the final price was ?35. The free wifi was nice. Fast and stable. The breakfast buffet was huge but expensive. The art was ostentatious. Forget about doing any site seeing if you are on an overnight trip. A little out of the city for that.

A little bit out of the way for those looking to hang out in the town centre but even at that the public transport to and from the hotel was easily accesiable. Which is just as well as there is not a lot to do nearby. The staff were all very polite and helpful - if a little hard to locate in the evenings. The hotel was clean and tidy and comfortable the rooms are a decent size and the bathrooms were very clean and comfortable. We found the food a little expensive in the hotel as we hadnt booked in for Breakfast - 17 Euros for a basket of breads.

Smoking was allowed in the lobby which was good for my husband and not so great for me. Staff was very nice. Bed was very comfortable.I would recomend it to anyone that is traveling without children.

Positives: Really comfortable, nicely (interestingly) decorated room, near freeway and not far from airport, quick walk to train which is a 10 minute direct ride to all the Amsterdam sites. Negatives: Our TV did not work for the majority of our 3 day stay in spite of several complaints to the front desk, the parking in their garage is outragously expensive but there is some street parking a 5 minute walk away, the hotel was in the middle of no where basically, nothing interesting nearby.

The Artemis is a clean, modern hotel. My only critical comment is that it can be challenging to find. It sits back in a cluster of IBM office buildings and the address "John M. Keynesplein 2" doesn't show up on the map at the tram stop. There is a small lighted sign on the main street, but it is not obvious from the tram stop. From Central Amsterdam, take the #2 tram line and get off at Aletta Jacobslaan. Walk down the main street towards the highway overpass. The hotel sign will be on a lampost on the right in front of the IBM buildings. There is a bus that runs to the airport. It takes about 30 minutes and is much cheaper than the Taxis. The breakfast buffet is good and the staff is very helpful.

The parking under the hotel is NOT free and is NOT comp'd for hotel guests. An overnight stay is about $20. You have to pay your parking ticket each time you leave the hotel, so if you park for 2 hours and leave again for more sightseeing, expect to pay $5. Parking for under an hour is free. We did not see any free parking on the streets or nearby. I would go back to the hotel in a heartbeat, I just wish I had known about this beforehand.

Hotel is Fabulous. Outside of the city but the walk from hotel to tram (or metro) is less than 10 minutes and you are in the city in less than 25 (including the walk from hotel to tram). I stayed there alone for 2 nights and felt completely safe and secure. There isnt a refrig. in room though, that could be fixed... BUT, wi-fi internet is free which overceeded not having a refrig. Bring your own food back and water too as drinks and breakfast are expensive. The cost of the dinner menu is not bad though. Its in the business section with nothing around, however, I felt completely fine walking alone in the dark.

The Hotel was extremely modern, had great design, and was very comfortable. Our rooms were amazing and clean, and I can honestly say the photos do the hotel justice, it's just as beautiful inside and out. The only problem I had was the hotel had no printer, so if you're wanting to check-in for your flight the next day, you cant print out your boarding passes there. And the food prices were outragious, 18 euro per person for a breakfast buffet is hardly reasonable. Although, their dinner is good for the price, a buffet for the same price as dinner is not. Other than that, we got a great deal on Hotels.com and I would recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to Amsterdam.

We stayed at the Artemis in the off season, so it wasn't very busy at that time. Although their brochure has nice photos of the rooms, they do not capture the comfort of the room. The bed is extremely comfortable for weary travellers- we slept very well- and we were anxious to get into that bed every night after having fun in Amsterdam. We had no interesting view to speak of from our room, just some construction site in progress and the freeway- but it was very quiet, and the hotel was nice in so many other ways that we did not miss having a view at all. The bathrooms are *very modern and clean- plenty of hot water with excellent water pressure- and amenities like soap, shampoo, conditioner- and they will provide you with a toothbrush/toothpaste at the desk, if you ask. I was wishing my bathroom at home was this nice- but the very modern and minimalist design of the bathroom does mean you will get water on the floor every time. The door to the bathroom is frosted glass- with no lock of any kind- so it's best if you are very comfortable with the person you are rooming with. The tap water is very clean and good to drink at the hotel, and our room was equipped with a digital safe to lock up your valuables that is free to use. You can have smoking or a non-smoking room. Their basic rooms have a nice flat-panel LCD TV on the wall- that has digital menus of things to do in Amsterdam, and some very basic local information- along with Internet access on the TV, and a few video games. The Internet access through the television did not work very well, though, because of awkwardness using the remote to navigate- so don't plan on making the television your primary Internet access point. I think you can plug your laptop into the wall for internet access- but I did not bring my laptop on vacation. The video games (like 'Breakout') on the television are also hard to play while trying to use the tv remote control. There are a few BBC channels available, and a score of movies

This is a great hotel for business. Easy access, close to Freeway and City. It's in a business park so you need a car or take a taxi or bus. No restaurants within walking distance. I stayed there over the weekend (at a low weekend rate) between to weeks of business. The hotel is very clean, rooms are fair sized compared to most European hotels. Minor complaints: No in room info about hotel services (are there any?) and prices. Reception said the info folder was being redone. Small fitness room. Only one treadmill for over 250 rooms is not enough. No towels nor TV in fitness room. No pool. Only a few working TV channels. It's a bare-bones 4 star hotel. I cannot rate the breakfast buffet because I didn't want to spend $150 on breakfast for the weekend (3 breakfasts x 17.50 Euro each x 2 pers. = $150. Parking is $20/day. Nice feature: Wireless Internet is included.

On check-out, it turned out that the price is 17.5 EUR per person. Have we known that from the beginning, we would have explored other options. Besides his sincere appologies for his colleague's mistake, the desk clerk could not offer us anything. This incident gave a very bad taste to the entire stay.
