HEM Hotel Amsterdam - Amsterdão

I booked a specia" deal to stay in the Annexe. The Annexe appears to be a pile of potracabins bolted together, they may well be pensioned off Oil-platform accomodation pods. The common areas of the Annexe are really tired and dirty. The room itself looked OK and was superficially clean, but I had the misfortune to drop something and have to move a bed to get it back, and the filth under the bed was revolting. The bathroom was just disintergrating, evreything broken, sink, loo seat, shelf, and the toilet is so tightly squeezed in that it wasn't actually possible to sit on it. On the plus side the staff were very pleasant, and the bar and restaurant are fine, but there is no excuse for anything this bad being available to rent.

Me & my sister went to Amsterdam for a long weekend, staff wasn't friendly room was tiny just wasn't impressed with the hotel.

staff were good at all times. room was clean and quiet tram pass was a big bouns. food was good. been 4 times to amsterdam and bye far best hotel stayed in vaulue for money

THis was an annex room and cheap. It was outside of the main hotel. Room was hot and stuffy with no AC. Bed side lights didnt work and were hanging off the wall. Bathroom incredibly small and needs updating. The bedding was clean and the overall room itself could be improved. The beer and meals at the hotel were very expensive. In short its ok for a footy weekend but I would certainly not recommend taking your family there.

Could not check in until 2 pm, the room was very dirty,the hotel staff wasn't friendly at all, and none of the doors around the building locked at night. I would not recommend this hotel.

Me and my friend came to Amsterdam and needed to book something last minute, When looking on the internet we found this Hotel...It was a good price and at the time of our arrival it was alot cheaper than hostels. a bit oput of the city (15minutes) but the tram fair is not expensive at all E2.40 one way.

Very Friendly Staff Clean Rooms Very Basic But You Can Upgrade for an Xtra 10Euro we just needed somewhere to sleep in comfort with clean towels and bedding and we got exatly that recomened for staggs (got to keep it down after dark) Hens Couples looking for a little alone time

5 Minutes from the nearest Tram station which is Westlandgracht. Staff are friendly. Taxi to the nearest airport cost only 25 Euro, so its about 20-25 minutes. Lockers are available outside your room and cost extra. You have to pay an extra for local taxes even you pay in full in Hotels.com

I would not recommend this hotel at all for anyone except for someone very down on their luck. Don't be lured by the cheap price. The HEM hotel has two hotels. One is the nice one, and the other is a trailer park. It's was so disgusting inside. You will have to use a tram to get from the hotel to the city center. It will cost $4.00 for two people each way, this will add up over time, and it takes up to 25 minutes to get back and forth. Pay some extra and get something better. Do not stay here.

The hotel is not far from the RAI convention centre which is good, however besides this, my stay was a completely nightmare. The hotel put me in a 2 star room outside the main building, in a terrible construction in the car parking. The room was small, dirty, full of noise outside my window due to a pipe, leak in the toilet and smelling marijuana everywhere. I understand it's amsterdam, but not in a hotel ! that's why they have hundreds of coffee shops in the city. They could only upgrade me to a better room, the next day after a non sleep night, which was just ok. The staff was not very helpful and there are no restaurants or bars around. To sum up, I would NOT recomend the hotel to any one. Business or leisure

I have stayed at this hotel numerous times, however this time round was by far the worst, this hotel has slowly gone down hill, the staff are rude now, they charge for Wifi when it used to be free in the reception area. On arrival our room didn't have a functioning heater, well when it's -3 outside you need the heater to work, the answer was to get a portalble heater and put that in our room, however, the hairdryer didn't work so my friend plugged it in, with that the room went dark, as we had tripped the entire floor out, we finally managed to get our room swapped, which I hasten to add they did very reluctantly, I would not stay here again if you paid me............. never again. I was made to feel very uncomfortable for the rest of the stay.

Read lots of reviews before I booked, we had a quad room (2 adults and 2 kids). I would reccomend this hotel for people travelling by car and wishing to visit Amsterdam for a couple of days. Hotel has a paid parking on site, which was really important for us. Great access to the city by tram. If you plan to vistit the city and need a place to sleep this is perfect budget option.

Employees are not qualified. Terrible service. Poor hygiene (hair on bed). Charged 30.00 pound to replace the bedroom because the heating did not work. Not accepting dormitorios the Annex.

We book the room with a very attractive price and the room condition is beyond our expectation! the room and clean, and the room size is satisfactory. The hotel is not very close to the city center but there is a tram (No. 2) which could take you to the city center with about 15 minutes. I will try it if I will visit Amsterdam again.

Great hotel, but not close to anything, difficult to get to as well, but overall I was pleased.

Hotel was very far from city center and not close to a tram stop (as was advertised). Room was small and not very well kept with two single beds although I booked one double. I have stayed at nicer hostels. The only thing it had going for it was friendly service and the price, which was not worth staying so far from the city.

The room was in the annex building which was cold and not very clean. I was very dissapointed this time around as I had stayed in the main part of the hotel buidling on my last visit two years ago and that was okay.

This hotel was not as close to the centre as advertised. Its a 10 minute walk to the number 2 tram stop then a 30 min tram ride to the centre. It is about 15 minutes to the museum quarter mind you. It was basic, good enough if you just need a place to sleep. Bathroom was tiny!

the windows in our part of the hotel couldn't open so it was uncomfortably hot. the staff was very friendly and helpful

bathroom sink is very bad not going down water and also shower room tab water not coming proper we a saying for them about that problum but not doing nothing . we are not very happy , not have room service .

This hotel is quite run down. It is located way out of the way. It is overpriced. It does not deserve a three star rating.

This hotel was pretty disappointing. The staff seemed impatient and charged us a "tourist tax" on IAmsterdam cards, which our other hotel that we stayed at in Amsterdam did not. Everytime we left the hotel, we had to return our key to the desk. Our view from our room looked into other parts of the hotel, not outside. The shower was just a curtain and a faucet in the wall, so water got all over the bathroom. We never received the wakeup call we asked for. We could not make phone calls from the room without a credit card, even with a phone card. We were out of the way of most everything in the city. However, the hotel was clean and was fairly close to a tram station. There are better places to stay in Amsterdam, I would not recommend this hotel.

Wonderful hotel especially for what you pay for! Would recommend a travel kettle or take your own soft drinks from a local shop as none in room but lovely lay out of our room, great for couples but may be a little awkward for friends/family in same room as clear glass block walled shower to be seen into room. Fine for us as couple but others may feel shy with this. Tram stop 5-10 minute walk left & left again, takes about 15-20 minutes to get to city centre but only 10 minutes for Rijkmuseum & Van Gogh museum, lovely restaurants; recommend ribs yum! Also would recommend you get a Iamsterdam card for either 24 / 36/ 72hours for included travel on trams / buses & free / discount entry to many touristy things around the city plus many bonus's along the way, especailly good if you've never been before, like us. Very useful also from hotel as would have been expensive to travel on single fares for trams / taxi's each way. There is also a GVB card or strippen card you can get from tourist centre opposite central station (last stop on number 2 from tram near hotel). We'd get one of those next time we go for value now we've done most of the tourist sites. Highly recommended hotel in our opinion!

To say that this hotel is a disgusting, filthy mess would be an understatement. This room was so dirty that the hotel staff had to come to the room twice to pour straight disinfectant into the shower drain and toilet to eliminate the odor of raw sewage. The rooms were filthy and there was trash under the beds from prior guests. The shower walls were encrusted in mold. The staff was dismissive and nonresponsive, and when the front desk clerk made and error, the senior manager (a) would not recirfy it, and (b) thought it appropriate to aggressively reprimand his worker in front of other staff and hotel guests. There is no security in the hotel which was obvious as kids ran the halls and pulled fire alarms during the night. Without exception, this is not a place for families.

Great 2 star, only thing is top not book the other building for 4 or 5 euros less a day.

Everything exceeded my expectations, complimentary apples morning and night. Free complimentary breakfast buffet last day of visit. Desk clerk name Stephanie, was very helpful in arranging tours, let me check in early, and gave me a free room upgrade. Entire staff was cordial and helpful. Will stay there again if visiting Amsterdam.

Everything was good except the location was far from the bus or tram.

I stayed in this hotel for 4 nights. The first night I found blood stains in the cover of the duvet in the side inside the bed. I turned down it down. I report it to the housekeeper. He was reluctant to change it. He eventually decide to change it when I told him that I have found it in that way. He say that they only change the sheets the first night regardless both the number of nights you are staying and the dirty they are. This is amazing. Even if I had stained it, that was not the case, they should have change it for the second night. They provide toiletries only for the first nigh. If you finish them, they do not provide more. The shower curtain was completely dirty: White in the top and yellow in the bottom. The location of the hotel is not very good, but it is very well comunicated with the city centre. The room was good, but these issues related with the cleanliness made the staying really unpleasant.

*Bathroom Shower Curtain - was moldy; also curtain did not work there was water all over floor - needs glass doors. Outside lounge area, full of cigarette butts everywhere but in cigarette containers. Also need ash tray on tables outside and litter and trash containers always full.

The cost of staying at the HEM was reasonable, considering the stronger Euro to the American dollar. The plus was that it was located in a suburb outside of city central and it was nice to walk around and observe normal Amsterdam life. If you don't mind the 15 min walk and 5 min train ride to city central, you'll do fine. The actual hotel room was sufficient for resting, but nothing else. Bed was extremely comfortable. Bathroom/sink/shower were all in one tiny room with no separation. Tight, but cozy, poorly lit even for reading at night, sometimes stuffy. For those who want to save money or eat light, a grocery store is a block away. The downfall is that there is no fridge or microwave in the room.

Meals were excellent. Service was good and hotel personnel were very freindly and helpful.

Abslutely dreadful place with absolutey dreadful staff. I would never go back there. Trust me, you do not want to stay at this hotel. It is worse than a jail and very dreary both inside and out. Trust me, stay somewhere else.

Everything is expensive in Amsterdam when compared to NYC dollars - but we did not expect to be charged quite so much for everything. The special price on breakfast was not so special, the charge for local calls and Internet connection were exceedingly high, and we had to buy an extra electric adapter from them even though we had one of our own that had worked at other hotels. We stayed 3 nights and the room was only cleaned once. Plus although we were in a non-smoking room everything smelled of smoke. Moreover the room was stuffy and did not have windows that opened or natural light.

We took advantage of what appeared to be a good price for for the HEM hotel. When looking at the pictures it appeared to be a decent enough. However, the "annex" was no more than a portable building that had been converted to a hotel with beds, a tv and a bathroom. The way the shower was put in you couldn't even sit straight on the toilet. The room was completely cramped.

the staff in the Hem Hotel could not have been nicer or more helpful. The room was clean and comfortable. We had clean towels every day. It would have been nice to have a teas made in the room. We took our own kettle so we were ok. Good breakfast. Pre-book your breakfast because it works out a lot cheaper, we did not know to do this and had to pay the full amount. The travel into Amsterdam was not as bad as we exected we got a 72 hour bus pass and used it to go everywhere.

Hotel wasnt bad, you get what you pay for as they say! Staff were really helpful! Only bad point is that it is a bit out of centre and you feel like your in a council estate but 10min tram and yr at Van Gogh Musuem so not bad. Close to metro also! Overall not a bad hotel!!!

Considering the price, this was not a bad hotel. The staff were very friendly and the room was very clean. My only complaint was the toliet paper....it was so thin and rough...other than that I thought it was great.

The hotel was ok although I have stayed in much nicer and cheaper 3* hotels. The bathroom needed some work the floor seemed to flood everytime the shower was used wasn't a shower curtain to help contain the water.The pay tv was very expensive I would rather pay ?12 to se a movie at the cinema.The overall cleanliness was ok and the staff were quite nice is a little way out of the city a 20 min tram ride altough it is located in a nice quiet area at least.

I booked this hotel THEN read the reviews and thought "oh no!!!" However, I and my family enjoyed our stay very much. It is NOT a fancy place. If you are into what movie is on the TV, big coffy beds, the in room coffee pot, and walking around to the quaint cafes at night (that is downtown Amsterdam) forget it! However, if you like to get away for the hustle of the "big city" and want a simple, nice place to sleep with a friendly and helpful staff, then this is it. There is a little ride to downtown Amsterdam (about 15 minutes on Tram 2), but we enjoyed it-- we shopped along the way for food and got a little glimpse of normal life in Holland. We would definitely stay here again.

This hotel is not close to the center of Amsterdam and a person needs to find transportation like a taxi or tram which is about a 15 minute ride to the Dam area. Also, even though my reservation included taxes, etc. the Hotel charged me an additonal 6 Euro up front for local taxes before I could get my room. I thought everything was covered?

We are satisfied with the cleanliness of the room and accessability to public transport

While walking to the hotel was about 12 minutes from the tram, the people around the hotel were very nice, the hotel staff was friendly, and the breakfast buffet each morning was excellent!
