Hotel Medicis - Nice

The first thing you notice is the friendliness and efficiency of the English speaking staff. The hotel itself is a lovely old place (much renovated) very near the train station. I have stayed at other hotels in Nice, but I would make it a point to reserve a room at this one on my next trip.

Location's good, near the train station, and in walkable distance to the the seaside. The street's quiet, with some cheap place to eat. Room was small but ok, the bathroom is spacious, but the shower could be larger. The rooms have poor sound-proof, you can hear your neighbour taking a shower. Internet is cable based and can be only accessed in the lobby, there is a computer that you can use and it is not free. When i was there the internet's not working, but the staff's nice enough to let me use the computer for free. One of the receptionist was not very patient, though, a big downside for this hotel, otherwise it's just ok for a night's stay.

Dirty towels, dirty bed linen, air conditioning that either leaked water all over the floor or failed to work completely and childs crayon paintings on the walls.....need I say more?

The hotel medicis wasn't that amazing. Firstly the location of the hotel is very far from the main tourist attractions of Nice. You have to walk about 20 minutes before you get to the pedestrianised section, and 15 minutes to get to the beach. The hotel is situated very close to Nice Gare SNCF station which is convenient for day trips to Cannes and Monaco. However, by night the area gets a bit dodgy and is home to some quite seedy sex clubs. If you're likely to go to bed early, then it's not too big a problem for you. The reception staff were really helpful though, they knew alot about the area and were passionate about Nice. The room itself was rather pokey to say the least. There was no mini-bar, and hence no fridge. The television only has BBC news as the English channel. Another surprising feature is that there is no way of regulating the temperature of the room. Although there was a radiator in the room, it was switched off. At the time of staying there, it was really, really cold by night. The rooms are however very clean, but for a 3 star hotel, the Medicis didn't have very many amazing features about it. The hotel can't improve it's location, but it could improve by adding an electronic heater in the room, and perhaps a minibar.

The reception staff was outstanding, very helpful and friendly. The hotel room itself seemed pretty ratty. The mattress was old and broken down. An old stained couch in the room as well. One lamp didn't work and we needed the lighting. The shower/water system was very difficult to manage. (not a lot of pressure and the shower was not contained so the water went everywhere) The hair dryer piece kept coming off. No wash cloths provided (fairly typical of European hotels though) It did have a nice vanity area that is extremely useful, that even nice hotels don't seem to provide. But there was breakfast provided at the restaurant next door that was nice. The location of the hotel is fairly close to the tram, which is very easy to use and get around. Taxi's are very expensive and so is parking if you have a car - unless you rent a teeny little car that you can hopefully find a spot to squeeze in to.

The hotel is decent and the staff was courteous. If it was in another location, I would highly recommend it. But, if you are planning on walking as your primary mode of transportation, this hotel is not for you. To get to the old town from the hotel, one has to go through some pretty seedy areas of Nice. We did not feel 100% comfortable walking at night, although we were not harrassed or approached by anyone. Nevertheless, for $20 more, stay closer to the attractions; you're gonna spend your savings and more in taxi fares.

Très bien pour une nuit

Praktisk sted å bo når en skal reise videre med tog da det ligger 3-4 min unna togstasjonen i Nice. Savner frokost og WIFI inkl i prisen.

Hotelroom was clean and nice. Internet connection only in lobby. Quiet neighbourhood.

Hotelværelset lille, ikke rengøring hver dag.

Bien placé et bon confort avec chambre bien équipée. Seul le service laisse à désirer ... Surtout quand on veut dormir et que, malheureusement, s'il y a des voisins insomniaques qui n'arrêtent pas toute la nuit, d'entrer et de sortir de leurs chambres en claquant les portes, le personnel de service averti ne daigne même pas se déplacer pour essayer d'y remedier en allant les voir ...

Mycket bra service. Trots felbokning från vår sida ordnades rum. Personalen väldigt trevliga och serviceinriktade.
