This not a 4 Star Hotel (or even 3 Star!) The standards did not match the rating. The decor and appearence is very tired. The room and bathroom were dated. The towels in the bathroom were dreadful. The breakfast was poor and expensive for what was offered. The staff were not particularly helpful or welcoming. Someone else's bar bill was added to our checkout bill. Parking in nearby public car park is expensive. The hotel should negotiate a deal for residents. This hotel is poor value.

The only downside to our stay is that we booked a double room but was given a twin, this was quickly sorted out for us and a much nicer room was allocated. The staff were very friendly and polite and if I were to stay in Brighton again it would definatly be at this hotel.

The Hotel's location is second to none, being so close to all of the resort's attractions. I would though need to try the other hotels in the area before making a repeat visit. TV was small with only a small number of channels available to view. View from the room was poor, could just about see one small section of the sea. General condition of the room was also poor. The internal doors need to be replaced and overall repainting is required. I was expecting a lot more.

A lovely hotel in a great location with fantastic staff. The rooms are comfortable if a little dated but when you're only there for a few nights it really is of little consequence. had a fantastic rest and the use of the gym, pool and sauna was a real bonus.

This is a beautiful hotel and is very well situated. There is only a couple of problems parking is a major issue. they should make it more clear about paying for parking on web site and give prices as is exspensive. the other problem is the air con didn,t work

As a reasonably priced chain hotel this was excellent - pleasant atrium bar and restaurant serving a good breakfast. We opted for a deal including breakfast and felt it was good value. It's not out and out luxury but the sea view room we booked was large and comfortable with the added bonusof complimentary binoculars to better appreciate the view. Above all the location is fantastic - right on the sea front with a rear exit directly onto the Lanes. We will definitely use it again.

4-5 August 2009, a last-minute break with our 4-year old son; a family room on the 3rd floor. 2 double beds and a sea-view, which was great. impressive foyer, with a nice play area on mezzanine level. Location is perfect for exploring The Lanes and getting to the beach - right opposite a stretch by the pier & amusements. We ate dinner at JB's Diner next door to the hotel - a nicely-appointed American-style diner. Great independently-owned places for breakfast along the sea-front, at beach level. The hotel car park is in a mess, and with the lift not working (really unpleasant urine-tainted few flights of stairs with our luggage and young son), meant our first impressions weren't great. The parking fee should have been waived, or at least reduced, for hotel guests. Water pressure in our room (cold tap) was very low - just a trickle. Bathroom bin was broken, and our replacement was an open waste-paper bin. Rusty fittings in bath/shower, though the general standard of room cleanliness was reasonable. Found some rubbish (a previous occupant's) behind our bedside table when looking for my son's toys before departure. We've stayed at Holiday Inn down the road before, and thought this time would go for this slightly more expensive Thistle, as a birthday treat for our son. Given the refurbishments taking place and general standard of our room, we were disappointed here, and would probably try somewhere different in the future.

At first glance this is a nice hotel, but you don't have to look too hard to find evidence of a property in need of a serious make over. it is perfectly comfortable (the shower is particularly nice) and the service was fine, but previous maintenance has been done cheaply and it does feel like a lot of money to be paying for a tired hotel!

Really nice hotel, plenty of facilities,very friendly staff. Clean rooms, lots of extras such as pool, gym and a nice central seating area. Location great, right on seafront and centre of town so great central base. When I was there the car park seemed to be out of order (27/02/09) so parking was expensive and far away. Id recommend checking on this before going so you know you are sorted. It was a great hotel though had a great time and would recommend.

We've used the Thistle for short stays perhaps 8 times now. Why? Location is outstanding, and rates reasonably competitive. Two things consistently let it down: the air conditioning in the rooms doesn't work now, and has rarely worked in the past. This past weekend, it was so bad that we had to have our room changed - which the management did quickly and courteously. But it shouldn't be necessary after the refurbishment which many rooms have had. The other problem is the atrium bar: in five years, I can never remember not having to make a fuss to get served (this time, they forgot our order completely) and tables are rarely promptly cleared. By contrast, the long-standing concierges are helpful and charming.

my partner and i picked this hotel for our valentines weekend the hotel was beautiful but the staff service was poor, twice the fire alarm went off in the early hours of the morning with no explanation and there was a confusion with breakfast which ment we missed out. the hotel parking also seemed a little over priced.

I booked this hotel for valentin's day week end and have been disapointed. The hotel and leisure club were nice but the bedroom was not on the standard a 4* hotel. The bathroom was old and not really bright, the painting was fowlling appart in the entrance around the door. I don't think that I will come back for the price I paid.

We had gone for a weekend break and upon arrival at the hotel we checked in. We had this very good impression about the hotel before we arrived there as this is "Thistle Hotel" which is meant to be a five star hotel. Anyway when we went up to our room i went to the toilet and noted that it wasn't cleaned properly. The Air conditioning was not working. The TV reception was not working. Although i must admit that when we complained about the AC the maintenance man came down and checked it out and got us a new room. There is one thing i must point out and that is after paying for the accomodation, the hotel should give its guests free parking.

This is a good quality hotel and the staff are very pleasant. Excellent location if you want to stay on the sea front or near the Lanes. Breakfast was very nice but expensive (just under £15 per person). If its not included in the price think about going out for it. There are a number of options in the Lanes. Leisure facilities were very good, clean and well maintained. Staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel's decor is a bit dated but not shabby. Bed was very comfortable and firm. Pillows were good quality and not thin or floppy.

Our trip was a spur of the moment weekend away from London and as a first time to Brighton we wanted to stay right on the beach. This is an old hotel, currently under renovations, but perfectly located adjacent the pier and close to restaurants, bars, etc. We arrived late on the Friday night and were immediately upgraded to a seaview room as the hotel was not fully booked. The room was lovely and the view was a pleasant addition to our stay. We would recommend this hotel for value for money and would definitely stay there again.

Speedy, efficient and welcoming receptionists, delightful festive feel to the impressive hotel foyer and bar area, spotlessly clean, comfortable and spacious standard double bedroom, which has been recently decorated. Leisure facilities were outstanding which was the perfect antidote to some serious shopping in The Lanes which are situated right on the hotel doorstep. Excellent service, food and value for money in hotel restaurant and bar. We'll be back!

reason we went was to have a relaxing weekend :- leisure facilities were closed, bed was very uncomfortable with springs digging into us , when we checked out the guy asked us how our stay was, so we told him...and he just replied that he was sorry to hear that, and nothing else! very poor customer service indeed.

helpful staff above and beyond their job. excellent postition easy to walk to most stuff. lovely building, big, clean, quiet, room (twin) concierge the most helpful I have ever come across in 40 years of staying in hotels. my stay was upset by vandleism to my car, the hotel went out of their way to make sure I was OK despite the car park not being their responsibilty. I will definitelty go back to stay here next tiem I'm in brighton

I stayed in the Thistle Brighton on the 18/10/2008 and i have to say i was quite impressed. The hotel was ideally situated right on the sea front and only a 5 minute walk from the shops and bars. The staff couldnt do enough to help you and really made you feel welcome. The rooms decor was in need of a little touch up but other than that my experince of this hotel was great.

Centrally placed on the sea front, ideal for shopping in The Lanes and a stroll along the prom, this hotel could not be faulted. It's not a hotel that will make you go 'wow' but I couldn't think of anything negative to say about it. Service at reception was efficient, room was of an adequate size, decor not ultra modern but definately a long way away from the flocked wallpaper of old, noise not a problem and breakfast pretty damm good and plenty of it. All in all a hotel to be recommended even if a little pricey.

I booked this hotel specifically for a spa weekend and then learned after several phonecals that their beauty therapist was off work (the hotel didn't know but did recommend a local salon) and then on arrival we were told that the swimming pool was out of use (although we could use a pool in a neighbouring hotel). Also the alcoholic drinks at the in-house Costa Coffee Bar were prohibitively expensive - over £15 for a gin and tonic and a glass of red wine and £11.50 for two Baileys. The car parking is in a municipal car park which required that we leave the car at the entrance and go to reception to get let in and then a concierge also needs to go with you to let you out.

This hotel is in an ideal location with the lanes to the front and seafront to the rear. really looking forward to our stay, check in was polite and friendly. We had booked a non-smoking room, but when we opened the door hit by a strong smoking smell (not the hotels fault as obviously the previous guest) changed rooms, porter came up to assist in the move and agreed about the smoke. Second room overlooking the lanes as quite noisy then found out why the window was broken and unable to close, maintenance could only screw it permentely shut, so change of rooms again! Third time lucky, but customer care throughout was very poor asking us to keep returning to reception to change rooms etc. When we checked out the Duty Manager was very unapologtic as though we were lucky to be there and not really anything he could do. I think the final straw was we ordered a newpaper which never arrived when we queried this we were told it was delivered and probably taken by another guest and all they could do was take it off the bill.

There is absolutely no way this hotel should be considered 4 star!! Most of the hotel was fine and the corridors looked great but the room was very dated and the bathroom was awful. Not a pleasant stay.

The atrium makes a good impression being light and spacious but rooms need a makeover. The pool is very tired and dreary. Small towels and minimum toiletries. No effort at hospitality. Disapointing for 4 star.

The hotel is 5 min from the Brighton Pier. The room was fine and staff helpful. There was even a gym. But if I had to do it over again, I'd make Brighton a day trip from London and save on the hotel cost.

Everything about the stay was excellent. Hotel facilities good, meal 5*, drinks a little expensive though. The only criticism was that there was no ambience/atmosphere in the central atrium area. Maybe a little music, or even better, a lounge pianist would make all the difference to the stay.

Myself and my son stayed in the hotel for three nights, he had a smoking room and I had a non smoking room. We enjoyed our stay very much, the rooms were very nice and comfortable, the staff were fantastic, very friendy and helpful, the only one thing that annoyed me was that the fire alarm went off both Friday night and Saturday night at aprox 3 30 am, which was quite disturbing, it also went off at 7 15 am on the Monday morning. I beleive this was caused by somebody smoking in a non smoking room! Apart from this, everything else was excellent.

This hotel was in a great location, down the street from the pier and close to restaraunts in this quaint little town. We arrived and had to wait for about 20 minutes (at least) to check-in as there was only one hotel receptionist and poor girl was working so hard to address the stares of the entire (long) line. When it came to our turn, I advised the receptionist we were there as part of our honeymoon and she was unable to do anything as a courtesy upgrade (this was low season so something should've been available) and offered us their standard upgrade promotion (where you must eat dinner in their restaraunt to be upgraded). They are trying to promote thier hotel restaraunt. Needless to say, it was a decent hotel (for european standards as this would not fly as a 4 star in the U.S.) although they need to add some more staff for this price and star rating.

We were very impressed with the size of the double room and the cleanliness and facilities. It is an excellent base for exploring Brighton and there are plenty of good resturants and bars within 5-10 minutes.

This is a great hotel in many ways, the restaurant is great, the staff friendly and helpful and the position is perfect. The rooms are looking pretty tired and are not really what we were expecting. They need updating and if they were, we would be back in a flash.

A comfortable nights sleep sharing a family room with my elderly mother in two 4' beds, but breakfast was not a success. We had to queue some time to get a table, some fruit and croissant products had run out, I tried four different types of melon all of which were tasteless, and the toast was like gold dust - arrived too late to eat. Staff seemed overstretched, too many customers to maintain service standards. Then there was another queue to check out!

Very nice hotel. Not pretty from the outside, but quite nice inside (apart from the dark paint in the halls). Very reasonable costwise but be aware of the expensive breakfast that was extra - £14.50 each ... we went around the corner to Pucini's and had a wonderful breakfast for £5.oo!!

Ett förstaklass hotell Har varit i Brighton många gånger och därmed bott på olika hotell men inget imponerar om jag jämför med detta. Kan varmt rekomenderas

Hôtel confortable, petit déjeuner très cher mais la salle du petit déjeuner est très agréable, le buffet est ... normal mais je répète le prix du petit déjeuner est trop élevé. Le service est correct et sérieux.
