Capital of the Riviera, Nice is famed for its sleek shops and avant-garde cultural scene. The palm-lined Promenade des Anglais extends along the pebbly beaches of the Baie des Anges past expensive hotels and a casino. Higher up, the quaint alleys of old Nice meander past baroque churches. The exclusive Cimiez neighbourhood has Roman remains and two excellent modern art museums. Carnival and the July Jazz Festival attract many visitors.

This is basically a minimalist, ultramodern hotel that has been around the block a few times. And by that I mean the walls are scuffed, the closet doors have worn grooves in the ceiling, the handles are falling off the tub, the reading spotlight is broken, etc. We got a great price on hotels.com and loved the place for its location, but our room was really quite small and not as nice-looking as on the website. But isn't that always the way? The staff was friendly enough, spoke good English, and the hotel was perfectly located -- right in the Old City and just a block from the beach.

Excellent location directly across from the beach and approx 2-3 mins from older part of Nice. Within very easy reach of Nice airport using local bus (#98) which stops literally around the corner. Pros: clean, modern, stylish, excellent location. Friendly and very helpful staff (mostly), luggage storage area, funky bar. Cons: room wifi did not work despite enquiring about availability prior to arrival. It was suggested that I come to the lobby if I needed wifi (my room was on the 5th floor!). Enquired about possible room change - this was scheduled for following day. Did not happen as promised. Checked at 3pm and 9pm but no change. Did eventually secure another room, smaller than original, a strange odor, electric blind did not work (quickly fixed), window that had to be forcibly shut. Felt DOWNGRADED. Did not complain further. Confusion over booking of private beach (which is not included in room price). Receptionist made note that we booked but next day were informed that no bookings were possible due to busy weekend. Arrived at beach & others were being ticked of a ‘booking list’! Have already recommended hotel to friends. Comes with warning to pay attention to service. I’m of the opinion that my case is isolated and that I was unfortunate in my treatment. I would return without hesitation but would accept nothing less than perfection. Score it 6.5 from 10: -2 for unsatisfactory room change -1 for confusion over booking of private beach -0.5 for lack of ironing facilities.

Very modern hotel with a unique design throughout the hotel. Our room overlooked the street which was really nice, especially at night, it was very lively. Very close to restaurants and the Cours Saleya. The bus station (Gare Routier) was within walking distance, although the Nice Ville Train Station was probably a 20 minute walk. The rooms were spacious and had a lot of storage space and shelves for unpacking. The beds were comfortable and clean. Overall I would stay here again.

The hotel was located within the old city which provided easy access and great options for amazing restaurants and activities. It was minuites away from the beach and has its own reserved private beach which you can reserve. Great place to stay for a hassle free relaxed weekend trip if you want to make the most out of your time.

I can't stress enough that the Hotel Beau Rivage is wonderfully located. The hotel is directly across from the beach (although the hotel entrance is facing the opposite direction) and is just a short walk to old town where there are plenty of shops, restaurants and bars. The hotel itself was nice, but I would certainly not rate it as a four star hotel as compared to those in the United States. The standard room was very small, but really how much time do you plan on spending in your room on a French vacation? Overall, the stay was positive (be prepared for the free wireless to be temperamental) and if I ever return to the French Riviera, I would stay again if the price was right.

This hotel was located only 1 block from the beach, and from our room we had a perfect view of the hotels' own private beach. The beach was wonderful, they had a large range of water-sports one of which was parasailing which I did. It was a lot of fun and for only 45 dollars it was worth every penny. The beach if free to access the only thing you have to pay for is a lounge chair, but with a couple beach towels there is no need for the chairs. The entire staff was fluent in english and more than helpful with directions and any questions we had. I would stay here over and over, wonderful room and one of the coolest bathrooms, with pebble floors and huge tubs. I look forward to visiting again, I hope this helps someone with their hotel choice!

Beau Rivage is a lovely hotel, staff are pleasant and helpful and it's in the perfect location! Don't take the pictures for granted. You have to pay €18 to access the lovely beach pictured on their website - it does not come free if you are staying at the hotel! And you have to book it in advance!

Most of the other reviews here are just about right. The location is absolutely perfect! There are plenty of little things that could be improved (e.g. bathroom shower leaked, a/c was a little weak, etc.), but if you're looking for a decent hotel in a perfect location for a reasonable price then this hotel makes a lot of sense. We stayed there for 4 nights in early July and had a great experience. The hotel staff was friendly and accommodating and put up with my limited French and easily switched to English when needed. Given the deal with one night free this hotel was a very good choice for us as we spent as much time as possible enjoying the city/beach in Nice.

The actual room far exceeded my expectations. The room was of decent size. We had a corner room of decent size. It had a comfortable queen sized bed and the bathroom was large enough for two. Description spoke of a "private beach" which the hotel no longer owns. The neighborhood was very centrally located and within easy walking distance to all restaurants and sights.

The hotel is in an excellent location right beside the beach/promenade and many restaurants and is modern and very clean. The staff are friendly and helpful. The rooms are a little small for a 4 star hotel. The volume on the TV (for movies) is controlled and once it gets to 11pm it is barely audible. Breakfast is a little expensive, it's cheaper to eat out in local cafes.

The hotel has a great location and a nice lobby and there was one woman at the front desk that was very helpful but that's about it. The decor was cute and modern but the room was small and the cleanliness of the bathroom (tub in particular) was completely unacceptable!!! Don't be fooled by the website, which gives the impression that the hotel is on the beach and that it's part of the hotel. It isn't you just get access to the beau rivage beach chairs but its 20 euro a day! thumbs down

Having stayed at many 3,4 and 5 star hotels around the world I have to say i was very disappointed with the Beau Rivage. The reception area was that of a 4 star hotel but the room didnt match up. Service of the staff was generally good. Decorating in the room was shoddy to say the least, our bath had no shower curtain for the shower, black rot around the bath sealant and some tiles had grout missing. The TV was hanging off the wall at a slant and wires hanging down. One of our towels had a hole in it. The general layout of the room was a very small bedroom and very large bathroom. It appeared as though the Beau Rivage thought if they put a couple of plastic orchids in the bedroom and bathroom you wouldn't notice the shabby interior. On the plus side, the hotel has a great location to the beach and shops. Overly expensive for what you get though. Would not recommend. Friends of ours on the same trip were staying in a 3 star hotel (booked by myself) and i can honestly say that their bedroom was superior to ours, yet cost 80 euros a night less! We stayed here as a treat, but it turned out not to be unfortunatley.

This hotel is an example of one that looks good on the website but is quite different on arrival. The room I booked (and paid for!!) was allegedly deluxe - I thought I'd been given the wrong room but was assured that it was the size of the bathroom that gave it the 'deluxe' title - i've stayed in better standard rooms in hotels with less star ratings. The bedspread was stained and the standard of room cleaning was poor. The hotel did not provide an iron on request - ridiculous considering it does advertise itself as suitable for business travel. They also do not provide umbrellas - an essential item for spring time Nice. The staff were unhelpful. Definitely would not recommend this hotel for a stay in Nice - business or pleasure

The hotel is recently redecorated and the design is magnificent. However, the exclusive feeling was quite distroyed by the dirty carpets. Also juice glasses in my room were not washed - they were just put back to their places dirty. On the other hand, in the bathroom the cleaning lady took away a hardly touched soap bar and changed towels every day even if I did not leave them in the tub. This despite the environmental messages in the bathroom. Talk about saving the world. Frontdesk was not very helpful, I got one word answers to questions. Breakfast was ok, but cost 18 euros (was not included in room price). Also Internet cost 20 euros per day/8 euros per hour with cable, or 10 euros per 3 hours with Orange wifi.

Perfectly located for the Promenade, the old city, Nice Etoile/Place Massena, the pedstrian zone and Carneval parades. Beautifully recently renovated well-appointed room (Small but luxurious, ideal for one) with a large bath. I was grateful for the blackout shade on the window. Very courteous (even friendly--and I didn't expect that from other reviews) and helpful staff, they checked me in early; quite comfortably switched to English when I ran out of French; made restaurant reservations; offered directions; my wake up call was on time. The "4th night free" promotion made it a no-brainer.

We go to Nice every year and are always on the look out for a good hotel - for a young couple the Beau Rivage was very good. The best location imaginable (even better if you have a sea view). It is so close to everything you want and need. Modern decor, clean, stylish rooms and a reasonable price we thought. Never had breakfast in the hotel as too expensive but so glad as we loved going out to the place round the corner 'le pain' which did most things. We stayed in a deluxe room although there was more space in a classic and will upgrade next time. Service was good but not outstanding but would definitely go back. We rang the hotel before and requested a room on the 4th floor as we were apprehensive about staying in the heart of everything and the noise etc I can say that in peak season we heard absolutely nothing so make sure you stay on the top floor. The hotel has a part of the beach where you can get a sun lounger, parasol for 17 euros per person and 12 euros each after 2.30pm - this is good as for everyone else it is 25 euros each. I would recommend you visit their restaurant on the beach (book in advance) we had an excellent meal by the sea in really nice surroundings etc. The hotel has no gym, pool or car parking so bear this in mind. We have been going to Nice now for 7 years and sometimes twice a year - it is good to have enough accurate information about where to stay in order to make the right choice so you dont spoil your holiday. Enjoy!

The Hotel is very well placed with regard to access to both shops and restaurants in the centre of the city, all within walking distance. Refurbished in 2004 the Hotel is beginning to show a little wear and tear, it was constantly full during our ten day stay. The staff were friendly and helpful in every respect. A real bonus is the Hotels private beach with dining facilities and bar. Again the staff were most helpful.

I enjoyed the location and clean modern design of Hotel Beau Rivage, but was let down on the service a few times. Specifically, we asked for ice and it was never delivered and when we arranged a taxi to the airport the night before our departure, the record was lost by the next morning. A taxi quickly arrived, but still it seemed a little sloppy for a hotel of this level. The rooms were clean, although the paint job was a bit banged up. Our room was quiet (faced the garden), but I heard complaints from other guests whose rooms faced the street. they said the garbage trucks were very loud! The hotel is in a terrific location and we rented beach chairs each day. The service on the beach was great--specifically Aviv! He made our trip ever better! The restaurant on the beach has good food, but the service there is slow. I recommend ordering a sandwich from your beach chair. Overall, it was a nice stay--but I might try somewhere else next time.

Downside is very unhelpful staff - the phone in my room remained out of action during my stay, in spite of reporting daily. We waited 20 mins at the bar before the barman appeared, then promptly disappeared once we were served! V little window insulation so a lot of noise from outside - take earplugs! But that location makes up for everything.

Hotel is in a great spot for the old town markets, shops and restaurants. It is beautifully furnished and the rooms are very comfortable. However the external noise made it impossible to sleep - maybe better glazing is a must. The staff are not very helpful. My friend and I waited 20 minutes for someone to come to serve us at the bar and when we asked if the football on TV could be turned off as there was nobody watching it we were refused. The telephone in my friend's room never worked the whole of our 3 day stay even though it was reported on our arrival. This made it difficult to communicate as we were on different floors of the hotel.

We stayed in the Deluxe room for 1 night last week. Although the hotel is very hip and designed fabulously the size and service of the hotel were less than stellar. The hotel staff speaks limited english, which made it very hard to communicate. My largest complaint was that after checking out, no one at the hotel was able to call me a taxi. They had us walk several blocks to "look" for a taxi. We ended up walking into a different hotel who quickly called us a taxi and had an exceptional service. Although we had a few challenges with our stay at the Beau Rivage, we would probably stay there again, based on the convenience of the location.

The hotel was just across the road from the beach and had its own private beach area that was very comfortable. The room had lovely long windows that could be opened and overlook the street. The staff were very friendly, except the breakfast staff who couldn't be bothered to serve you, however, we were rarely in for breakfast, fancying instead to grab a sandwich from one of the many sandwich bars in the area. We hired a car for the day through the concierge and they were all very helpful, letting us arrive back at the hotel, dump the car and let the concierge and car rental staff organise the pick-up. Would definately go back there!

You needed something, they were there; you didn't need anything, no one bothered you. And even though it was a standard room and not the priciest, it had a partial view of the hills (or rather a hill) and of the sea. Just wonderful all around.
